I'm Way Too Old For This...

...but curiosity killed the cat. I have noticed this product many times, but have refused to try it, well because I'm old and this seems like something a 13 year old would try. But I had to.

I tried the Sally Hansen nail polish strips, and yes I tried the leopard print. Ha!!

Ya'll are digging my claw hand, right? I am a little bit leery of how long these are gonna last. The box says you can get 10 days out of them. So far I've had them on for about 12 hours, and I have had a few minor issues of them wanting to chip or even peel off. So I'm gonna go with a no for them to last all 10 days. They were really easy to put on and didn't take long at all. So if the ol' leopard print last for a few days, it might be worth it to use the other more normal looking ones. Or cut them down and use them on my toes for the more funky prints, like the ones I have now. Guess I am 13 going on 30....anyways, time for this old gal to get back to work and do some grown up things with her adolescent nail polish. :-) At least I can have a little bit of fun while posting to the G/L and doing budget forecasts, ha!!

A Few of My Favorite Things

I felt like doing a little beauty post this morning on some of my favorite products. It's probably a really good thing that I don't live close to a Sephora or an Ulta, because I would always be in trouble!

First up - Dior! I love all their stuff and if I could afford it on a regular basis, I would wear this every day! Here are some of my go-to basics from Dior.

I have to say, hands down, the DiorSkin Nude foundation is and will always be my favorite foundation. It. Is. Awesome. But at $60 a pop, I only splurge on it every once in a while. The mascara is awesome and these days I have to wear waterproof. And the eye shadow is extra luxurious and stays on so very well.

Bare Minerals

I just picked this up over the weekend to try, and so far I am loving it. It gives great coverage without feeling like you are wearing makeup. So, I will jump on the Bare Minerals bandwagon and give them a thumbs up.

If you don't own a set of brushes, you need to get some. I love mine. They hold up great and really make applying makeup super easy. Next up is the Shimmer Brick. There are different colors of shimmer bricks, but they are awesome because they work for cheeks and eyes. Awesome! 'Nuff said. Last, we have the hydrating toner. Granted, I use Stacey's from time to time. Its some good stuff, too. Makes your face feel very refreshed and still moisturized. That's a tough feat for a toner.

Can I just say that the Strawberry Scrub is probably one of my most favorite things? Because it is. It really, really is. It exfoliates your face really well, and then leaves it feeling so very soft and creamy. The Ceramide Eye Gel just feels good. Especially after a long day and when you're tired. The cooling gel helps to reduce puffiness and just tones up those wrinkles :-) The drying lotion is a miracle product. Put this on a pimple at night and it will be virtually gone tomorrow. The honey moisturizer is also really great, too!

Tarte

I picked this pack up the other day of lip gloss. So far, I'm really liking it. Goes on and helps hydrate your lips and stays on fairly long for a lip gloss.

Wisdom Wednesday

I can't believe it is Wednesday again! This week's installment of Wisdom Wednesday will be from Proverbs 2. I am using Matthew Henry's commentary of this chapter that kinda breaks down the themes of this chapter. Verses 1-9 are the promises made to those who seek wisdom and verses 11-22 list the advantages of that wisdom.

1 My son, if you accept my words

and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.

"Those who earnestly seek heavenly wisdom, will never complain that they have lost their labour; and the freeness of the gift does not do away the necessity of our diligence, John 6:27. Let them seek, and they shall find it; let them ask, and it shall be given them. Observe who are thus favoured. They are the righteous, on whom the image of God is renewed, which consists in righteousness. If we depend upon God, and seek to him for wisdom, he will enable us to keep the paths of judgment."


10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
11 Discretion will protect you,
and understanding will guard you.
12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men,
from men whose words are perverse,

The ways of sin are ways of darkness, uncomfortable and unsafe: what fools are those who leave the plain, pleasant, lightsome paths of uprightness, to walk in such ways! They take pleasure in sin; both in committing it, and in seeing others commit it. Every wise man will shun such company. True wisdom will also preserve from those who lead to fleshly lusts, which defile the body, that living temple, and war against the soul. These are evils which excite the sorrow of every serious mind, and cause every reflecting parent to look upon his children with anxiety, lest they should be entangled in such fatal snares. Let the sufferings of others be our warnings. Our Lord Jesus deters from sinful pleasures, by the everlasting torments which follow them. It is very rare that any who are caught in this snare of the devil, recover themselves; so much is the heart hardened, and the mind blinded, by the deceitfulness of this sin. Many think that this caution, besides the literal sense, is to be understood as a caution against idolatry, and subjecting the soul to the body, by seeking any forbidden object. The righteous must leave the earth as well as the wicked; but the earth is a very different thing to them. To the wicked it is all the heaven they ever shall have; to the righteous it is the place of preparation for heaven. And is it all one to us, whether we share with the wicked in the miseries of their latter end, or share those everlasting joys that shall crown believers?"


That was Proverbs chapter 2 everyone! I hope you got something out of this chapter today like I did.

On a more personal note, I saw another rainbow yesterday. Seems to be a reoccurring theme here lately. But yesterday when I saw this, I felt the Lord really speak to my heart. He reminded me that He is here. And the storm clouds may roll in and it may rain, but through it all, He is there. Guess He knew I needed that reminder! 

Tail-Gator

This weekend Stacey and I journeyed up to Auburn to go see some friends, tailgate, and watch our two teams battle it out. Of course my poor little Gators didn't fair so well this weekend. Boo! But I still had a great time, nonetheless. It was nice to get out of Georgia for a bit and have a little fun.

This was my first Florida game I have been to in probably 5 years, since I could never get Joseph, the big UGA fan to go with me, so please excuse the navy and orange outfit. Royal blue isn't a color I normally wear. Ha!

This is Cristy. She did a wonderful job planning the tailgate and bringing all the food and supplies and everything. She's the bomb {dot} com.

I had to make Stacey take this picture. You see that cooler sitting there? Yeah. That thing is a beast. We had to do a team carry and lug that thing for what felt like 50 miles to the tailgate site along with chairs and other stuff. We took lots of breaks, if you can imagine. (And its heavier than it looks! Trust me)

I did get a lot of this look this weekend...

That is Stacey's "Really" face. I get that look a lot from her. Ha ha. I usually do or say something dumb, and Stacey tilts that head and dryly says "really?" I was very excited to catch this elusive look on film. She was probably giving me this look for wearing my sweet sticker a guy gave me.

Yep. That was probably what did it! Or it was probably just me in general. Ha ha!



All in all we had a great time and I look forward to the next time we go up there. An added bonus to our weekend was on Sunday, Stacey's mom (or my aunt, Birdie) and our grandmother came and joined us in Montgomery for brunch after they dropped a friend off with her son in Auburn. So it was nice to get to see them briefly before heading back home. So that is our weekend in Auburn in a nutshell. Not too much to write about. We went, we saw, we ate. That's about it!

Is it the Weekend Yet?

This has been a rough week! My assistant Gracie has been gone for a week and she finally got back today. I wanted to kiss her when she walked in the door, I was so happy to see her back this morning. I appreciate all she does, that's for sure! Needless to say, I'm ready for this work week to be finished. But also because...

We will be heading out tomorrow to go tailgate at the Florida/Auburn game. I'm super pumped and ready to get out of Georgia for a bit.  Should be a good time. Although after the two beatings Florida has recently had, I don't know if I'm gonna be a happy girl. But then again, Auburn's had a rough go of it lately. It will probably be a battle to see who sucks the least! Either way, win or lose, I will still have a fabulous time. I haven't completely decided on my game day attire. I picked up a cheapo orange and blue dress at Target yesterday, so I might wear that with cowboy  boots or some skinny jeans and a sweater if it's gonna be a bit cooler. Guess I need to check the weather.

And just because I love a potato, I saw this recipe on Layla's blog over at the Lettered Cottage. It's for some ranch potatoes. It looks Ah-mazing! So, this is randomly going in my post. Ha ha!!

Wisdom Wednesday

"When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth." ~Genesis 9:16

Driving home from work yesterday, I got to see this beautiful rainbow. You can't see it as well in this picture, but it was actually a double rainbow. I love seeing rainbows. They always get my attention and remind me that God is always present in our lives and He displays his presence in the sky. So I thought I would share this glorious token that testifies to God's everlasting promise with us. When I look at a rainbow I see God's mercy and grace that was extended to mankind and was ultimately fulfilled through His Son, Jesus Christ. It always amazes me when studying the Old Testament, that everything ultimately points to Jesus and the rainbow is one of those things. The rainbow is also mentioned in Revelation, which I find very interesting.


" And He who was sitting was like a Jasper stone and a sardius in appearance, and there was a rainbow around the throne like an emerald in appearance." ~Revelation 4:3

This book of Revelation shows that God will judge the earth with all its inhabitants. The rainbow around His throne signifies that God is a covenanting God, the faithful God who keeps His covenant while executing His judgement upon the Earth. He will not judge mankind again with a flood nor destroy all mankind but will keep a part of mankind to be the nations on the new earth for His glory.

There is another interesting verse that has its reference to the rainbow.
" And I saw another strong Angel coming down out of heaven clothed with a cloud and the rainbow was upon His head and His face was like the sun and His feet like pillars of Fire." ~Rev. 10:1

The rainbow here indicates that Christ in His judgement upon the earth will keep the covenant that God made with Noah concerning the Earth. It also indicates that Christ will execute judgement according to the God who sits on the throne with the rainbow around it. This God is a faithful and a covenant keeping God.

So the rainbow is truly a promise. Not just as it relates to the earth but also as it relates to HOW God executes and carries out His judgement.

I found this picture that shows what the colors that make up the rainbow represent most often in the Bible. Thought it was pretty interesting.

Anyways, I know that I deviated from Proverbs this week and all that, but after seeing the rainbow, I wanted to learn a little bit more about it. Plus, I was fresh out of offering up any wisdom today!

You Dig?

You dig peanuts, that is. My cousin Heath and I had some bonding time on the tractor on Saturday. I rode with him for a couple of hours while he dug peanuts. I'm glad I had my camera in my trunk so that I could take a few pictures of our afternoon of bonding. Mainly, I think I probably just harassed him trying to take so many pictures. Ha ha!! Luckily the tractor has GPS that steers, so Heath didn't have to concentrate so hard on driving and he was completely at my picture-taking mercy!

And if you've never seen peanuts dug, here is a close up.

We even got to watch a bald eagle fly around the field, which was pretty cool. Although you can barely see it in the picture.

It was just a gorgeous afternoon, perfect for digging peanuts.

When I hopped out of the tractor to take this shot, the overwhelming smell of freshly dug peanuts just hit me. It's funny how smells can just remind you of memories and that is a smell I associate with growing up. Just something about it. Of course Heath and I then had to discuss other smells we love, one of mine being the smell of diesel fuel and the smell of cotton after it has been picked. Weird as that sounds, its a comforting smell. And because of those associations, I think that is why to this day I hate cilantro. If you have ever played in a wagon of cotton before, you have been up close and personal with a few green stink bugs. And let me tell you what, cilantro tastes to me how a stink bug smells. Anyways, I digress.... All in all we had a fun time and I look forward to going back and taking a few pictures of this:

So Heath better get ready for some more harrassment during cotton picking! But he will have some good pictures for his photo albums. So that is our adventure in digging peanuts. I regret I didn't stop in the other field and take pictures of them combining the peanuts. But that was a dust-fest when I went by the field where that was happening. Yeah...no thanks. My car was fifthy enough from sitting in the digging field.

Guess I'm lucky it has been raining for 24 hours straight and knocked some of the dust off the car!
