Rain, Rain, Go Away!

It's Sunday today, and it's been a gloomy, nasty day all day today! Yuck. Thankfully yesterday was gorgeous.

Spring is fabulous. I love it. There's just something about this time of year. It's a rebirth of all things. David came down to Thomasville this weekend and he was a good sport and let me go nuts this weekend, shopping wise. Although, he shouldn't complain when my shopping spots consist of places like Lowe's!

I love flowers and I love gardening. All things outdoors makes me happy. And the beautiful weather on Saturday made my passion that much stronger.

This weekend, I experienced a Thomasville first for myself. I have lived here since 2007, and I have never, ever experienced Nesmith 'sNurseries! I mentioned in a previous post about Stacey's newly acquired golden bougainvillea. Guess what?!? Nesmith's totally had one!

Granted, the two that they had looked really rough compared to the one that Stacey got. But I figured I could nurse the one I got back to health and get it to looking great! I had looked all over Tallahassee looking for one of these guys. Who knew there was one right here in Thomasville the whole time! I also score the absolute most gorgeous Salmon Geraniums there are. So pretty that I couldn't turn them down.

These pictures are all horrible, because it's been raining all day and I took all my flowers down and put them under the carport for safe keeping.

Take my word for it though. These geraniums are breathtaking. So gorgeous!

After Nesmith's, David and I hit up Lowe's in hope to get a Cocktail tree. If you haven't heard of these bad boys, you totally should! These trees are specially grafted. They produce lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits all out of the same tree!

They didn't have any trees in stock, but I did come away with some stuff for my little bird friends.

I got a new bird feeder that looks like a Mason jar and a new hummingbird feeder with sugar water I made myself for my little bird friends. Now I can't wait for the rain to clear and for my plant to get to blooming! I plan on planting a small garden for a few fresh veggies. Did I mention that I love this time of year?!?

And Another One Bites the Dust

Or just turned 30. Either way! This past weekend, we got to celebrate a very special YOUNG lady, my cousin, Stacey. I absolutely love this girl to pieces and I was so happy to be there to celebrate her and her entering a new decade of her life. We had lots of fun and I hope that her day/weekend was super special.

Saturday night, a group of us girls hit up downtown Pensacola. The birthday girl requested a night at the Symphony and dinner at the Global Grill. We are just fancy like that! She had me at hello. Food and music. I'm there!

(I'm going to give a huge shout out to my girl, Courtney whose photos I totally stole from Facebook, because I'm too lazy to upload my own!)

Between all of us, we had 2 Ashleys, 2 Brandys, and 2 Elisabeths! And of course a Stacey, Courtney, and Libbie. Thankfully we kept everyone straight.

We had a delicious meal of tapas, then the real treat came out. Courtney brought a strawberry cake all the way from Edgar's Bakery in Birmingham. It was so good!

Courtney emailed me about the candles for the cake. Should we do just a 3-0 or do 30 candles? We decided it would be more effect with 30 candles. That cake was on fire!

The best part was that Libbie asked the entire restaurant to join in with us to sing happy birthday. There was a table directly behind us with several retired naval fighter pilots. Two especially got into it and sang Stacey their own rendition of Happy Birthday. It was so sweet. We ended up giving them all the rest of that divine strawberry cake and got a few pictures with them. And oh yeah- they were headed to the symphony as well.

After dinner, it was time for the big show. The Symphony was at the historic Saenger Theatre downtown.
It was a GREAT show and the pianist was phenomenal!

Me and the birthday girl!
Sunday, which was her actual birthday, we kept the party going with a family birthday. My Aunt Susan did a good job. Everything was so cute! She even did a little poster of what was happening back in 1983 when Stacey made her debut.

Happy Birthday, Stacey Suzanne! Welcome to the Dirty Thirty club!!
xoxo

Afternoon Quickie

Get your heads out of the gutter! I'm talking about a little flora and fauna here and quick little project that I did the other afternoon after work.

It all started when I ran in the dollar store to grab some trash bags. I spotted a few diamonds in the rough on the C-to the-heap. So I decided to break out the spray paint and get down to business.
These little gems are plastic cheap-o planters that set me back all of maybe $10 for all four of these pieces. I wanted some nice planters to put by the front door, but I didn't really want to spend a lot of money to buy some nice ones. So these will work in the interim. I grabbed a couple of cans of oil bronzed spray paint and got to working on these guys.

Boom! All painted up with new ferns looking all fancy pants.
I grabbed the ferns from Lowe's and I didn't do a very good job of picking out two ferns the same size. Oh well! They look great by the door just the same. Now I need to find a pretty wreath to hang on the door to make it all pretty.

While I was at Lowe's I grabbed a few other things. They had a nice tomato plant there so I snatched that up and I can't wait until I can enjoy the fruits of this plant's labor.

There are already quite a few 'maters on the plant, so it won't be too much longer!

My most favorite find of the day was the cutest little plant cage that I got for the kitchen. I picked up an ivy plant to put in it for a little bit of green to brighten things up.
I'm currently on the lookout for some pretty flowers for the planters and a few hanging flowers as well for the carport. Stacey got the most gorgeous hanging bougainvillea plant ever for her birthday. Its a beautiful golden yellow/beige color. So I'm on the lookout for something as stunning. So if anyone is coming from Century, FL to Thomasville, you can bring me one. Hint, hint.

Anyways, that was my quick little DIY planter/gardening post. Hopefully I can get my pictures all downloaded from the weekend of Stacey's dirty 30 birthday extravaganza to share!

For Us Old Gals

This weekend someone (cough, Stacey, cough) will be celebrating their big 3-0 birthday. In honor of that fact I thought that this video was perfect timing.

Sad thing is that I'm staring 32 in the eyes in a few months. But that's ok. Cause Stacey's coming right up behind me!

So for all of you gals out there in your dirty thirties- embrace it!

xoxo

ps- I'm totally impressed with the chick rocking the 90210 sweatshirt
pss- I think they followed me around when they made this video. ha! I may not go to bed at 8:00. I do stay up to the respectable hour of 9. Then I go to bed- to watch Full House. Loser alert.
psss- I am also baffled at the acne and wrinkles. It's quite depressing and doesn't seem right at al
pssss- And I guess Stacey is really in her 30s- cause she has a cat now too :-)

Sometimes I Wish...

...that I was a true photographer. If only I knew how to operate my camera. And had time to edit photos. Maybe one day I will take the time to learn about my camera (Nikon D90) and all that jazz about aperture, fstop, etc. etc. etc.

Until then, I just go with it and have fun! Since my family was gathered up for my grandmother's birthday this past weekend, we got plenty of pictures in. I was more than happy to torture my sweet family with the constant clicking of my camera.

My favorite person that I tormented was my daddy. I had a lot of fun messing with him! But he was a good sport and let me click away.

After getting some pictures with the birthday girl, I took a few pictures of my cousin, Gary Wayne and his family with the lady of the hour.

Everyone was so squinty in all of the pictures. The sun was brutal. But we championed on!

Finally, I got to have some fun!

Here I am getting my bossy pants on directing my daddy to his bad knee. No pain, no gain, Michael.
I can probably narrate these next few pictures.

Mike: I have to give her a flower?

Mike: Here Cathy. I don't know what to do with this.

Cathy: See, Mike. It's not that bad.

Mike: Chuckle, chuckle. Hurry up Ashley.

Mike: Here.

Cathy: How sweet!

Ashley: Perfect. Now Daddy, smile.

Mike: How about I throw this big fake spider on her instead of flowers?

Mike: Hee hee hee

Cathy: I don't think so, Mike Purvis!! SHRIEK! I'll put you in a headlock.

Ashley: Umm...that's a wrap.
That was quite interesting to say the least. But it was pretty funny.

Next up I took a few pictures of the boys up in a pecan tree. Barrett, of course was in no mood to cooperate! But a got a few decent, halfway normal looking faces.

By the end of all the crazy photo taking, everyone just let loose. I even convinced Gary Wayne to lay down and pose for me. It was hilarious. He's such a good model!

So there is all my pictures from the weekend. I had a blast doing it and I look forward to my next opportunity to get some more pictures in. Thanks goodness Easter is next weekend! :-D
