Hey guys! I am super excited because today is my Friday! Tomorrow bright and early, David, Moxley, and I are heading up to South Carolina to Lake Hartwell.
We are meeting his entire family up there for a little family vacation. I am super excited to go and explore the area and to spend some quality time with his sweet family. I just need to go home tonight and get my bags packed after my Sunday School party. Guess I have a busy evening ahead of me. But this time tomorrow, we will be on the road for a nice weekend getaway. We also have another lake trip planned in July, but this one is closer. We will be heading up to Lake Eufaula in Alabama with a group of friends for a long weekend. So, forget the beach. We will be laking it this summer!
I stopped by the bookstore yesterday to grab a book or two for the trip this weekend, since we have a nice 6 hour drive in front of us tomorrow. Don't get me wrong- I love a good chick-lit book- but I really love historical and/or memoir type books. So I picked up this book, Two Rings:
I started it yesterday when I got home and I am almost finished. This story is heartbreaking and poignant. It is a story about Millie who was born in Radom, Poland and her experiences during WWII and the Holocaust. Every time I read a Survivors memoir, I still can't believe that people actually lived through those atrocities. It just seems unbelievable at times that humans could be so cruel to other humans. It's hard to grasp your mind around.
The other book I picked up was Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina. I know I'm really late to the party on this one. I can't believe I haven't read it yet. In my defense, I have read War and Peace but that's only because I had to read it in college. Ha! But it is on my list of Classical "must reads" and I will hopefully get it crossed off my list this weekend. Plus, the movie comes out soon, so that is also a plus!
In other great books becoming movies- I am excited that one of my favorites, The Great Gatsbywill be coming out around Christmas. I.Cannot.Wait!!
Moving on.....
Thought I would share a few pictures from this past weekend that I didn't earlier in the week. Just mainly pictures of the massive garden that David's father grew. It is awesome. Although this visit, he had already torn up all his squash and zucchini vines, so it looked a little nicer in there this weekend.
His dad probably had at least 10 different varieties of tomatoes. I was extremely jealous. I made David stand beside the tomato plants, to give some scale on how tall they actually were!
Eggplant
Carrots
Some weird kind of eggplant
Bell peppers
Corn!
Oscar enjoyed checking out the garden for a brief second, then he wanted back in the car in the A/C! Go figure!
Nothing like some self photography :-P
When we got down to the swamp, I turned my camera back on the boyfriend for yet another photo shoot. He refused to cooperate.
He didn't want to get near the ground because "it was wet" or so he claims. I finally got him to halfway cooperate!
Beautiful, right? Hee, hee! A few more shots and I called it a wrap. I wasn't even feeling it. Maybe because I had left my tripod at home...
Poor David. He's a sport, is all I can say. Well, folks. That wraps it up for me today. I won't be posting my Friday Faves tomorrow, unless I find time to do it today. If not, hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
This weekend, David and I journeyed home to Blountstown to celebrate our Fathers. It's always fun to go home with David and check out all of our old stomping grounds. Usually, we just go down to his family's swamp and ride around, which is mainly what we used to do when we were teenagers. This weekend, since he was driving his company car and his dad had the truck occupied, we couldn't get in much swamp riding. Therefore, I showed him around where Brad and I used to hang out back in the day.
I took him down to Wildcat Creek. This is a little stream that feeds into the Chipola River that runs right through my parent's property. Brad and I would spend countless hours in the summer down in that creek exploring and checking things out and as we got older, gigging frogs and collecting sucker fish with our friend and neighbor Mason and whoever else we could get to join. So, David finally got to see what all the fuss was about. I was surprised that he never joined us on one of our excursions down there, but now he can say he has been.
We began our journey at the highway, right under the bridge that was always lots of fun to play at. This is a place where shoes are abandoned and you sink your feet into the frigid water.
I can't express to you how beautiful this little creek is. Maybe because it's part of my childhood and the wonderful memories make it that much more beautiful.
The creek was really low this weekend, so we had no problem navigating it. My only prayer was that I didn't fall and take my camera into the water with me! David absolutely loved it. He was quite jealous that Brad and I had this creek to play in when we were little. He would have never come home if he had something like this by his house or so he claims. But I believe him.
We just walked around and took turns to see who could catch crayfish. We discovered one little guy who had made a nice home out of a beer can. I affectionately named him Sponge Bob.
We played with Sponge Bob for a bit and I made David release him after threatening to eat him. {SB was never in danger of that, I assure you!}
There he is safe and sound back in the water.
We had a blast just walking around down there. It was such a nice afternoon for it. We will have to go back really soon!
Well.....I can't believe it's already Friday again! This week has zipped on by, thankfully. Here are some of my favorites from the week.
1. This guy: This weekend is Father's Day and I'm so glad to go and celebrate my daddy. He is my rock and the one man on this planet that I know will never fail me. I love, love, love him. He's the best!
2. Wrangling in my jewelry: I have a horrible habit of just setting my jewelry on my dresser and leaving it, for days. You know it would take a lot of effort to walk the 3 steps to my nightstand and put the stuff back in my jewelry drawer, but that seems a little ambitious. Ha! So, I took a wicker tray that has just been sitting on my desk, to help me keep all the stuff together in one spot.
3. Bauble Bar: I love looking at jewelry and Bauble Bar never disappoints. This pair of earrings is on my wish list.
I remember watching this with my mother (when allowed, of course!). Back in the shoulder-padded days of yore. When the likes of Dallas, Dynasty, and Falcon Crest were the night time dramas that had to be watched.
I have to admit, Stacey and I were pretty pumped to watch the 2 hour premiere last night! It was like deja vu, but I loved it!
I think I may be hooked. Now that the season of Mad Men is over I'm glad that I have a new show to keep my attention other than True Blood (and speaking of which, I am REALLY glad that's back!!).
And one more thing-- did anyone other myself find the irony in all of the car commercials advertising their hybrid/electric cars on a show that is all about the oil?
I guess today I will post up a few more pictures from this past weekend. It's nothing too exciting, but for lack of anything else to post about today, I will go with it.
I got to take Oscar this weekend for his first trip to Savannah (and partake in his first Parker's Chewy Ice cup). It was nice to have some company on that 4 hour drive!
I took this picture for David. I ALWAYS threaten to make him take me to Club One to go see Lady Chablis from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evilfame. Let's say this club wouldn't be one that we would normally frequent, considering the fact that Lady Chablis is actually a man named Frank.
I was nervous about how Oscar and Mox would be around each other. Mox is still a puppy for most parts-granted a 90 pound puppy- and Oscar is an old man at this point. I was really just worried that Moxley would accidentally sit or step on Oscar and hurt his back. Good news is that they got along wonderfully! Although, I think Mox was jealous that he didn't get all of my attention.

What really surprised me this weekend, was how much Oscar loved David! This was their first weekend to truly get any quality time together. Oscar is a typical dachshund. He only likes a handful of people (mainly just me and my mother) and really doesn't like men. But he LOVED David. Oscar must be a great judge of character! (he didn't care for the ex-hubs, that should have told me something...)
You will see that Oscar got the prime real estate during nap time. Poor Mox had to come sit with me while the other two napped away.
I think David enjoyed having Oscar there. I know I did. The true test will be when we bring the two puppies up for a weekend. Then things may get interesting!
Saturday night, we hit up downtown with our friends Paden and Lauren. Here we are on our way out. David really is enjoying all my picture taking.....NOT!
This is the only picture I got of the crew that evening.
We had a great evening. We went to the Tapas restaurant downtown, then went and played a little shuffleboard and darts at one of David's favorite hangout spots.
At the end of the night, we went to River Street and went to the Dueling Piano bar. I have been begging David to take me for ages--because I love, love, love dueling pianos! Granted, I had no idea what this place was like until we walked in It was much bigger than I expected and there were several bachelorette parties going on. Apparently, that's the place to be in Savannah!

We had a wonderful evening and it was nice to switch things up this weekend. Usually, we are fairly low key. Sunday, we all just rested and I cooked lunch for David. Thanks to Stacey, David is now a huge fan of broccoli cornbread, just like I am! After lunch, Oscar and I packed up and headed back to Thomasville.
So that wraps up my weekend. Looking forward to this coming up weekend because David and I are going home for Father's Day. Always good times to be had in Calhoun County, FL!
I was born and raised as a southern farm girl in the gorgeous Florida Panhandle in a small town with (gasp!) two red lights. I now reside in a beautiful, historic city in southwest Georgia with my three dachshunds- Oscar, Brutus, and JR. This blog isn't completely thrown to the dogs...it also documents my love for travel, cooking, decorating, the south, and my life in general. So grab a sweet tea, sit down a spell and get to know me. Welcome!
