St. Patty's Day Weekend {Part 2}

Where do I even begin to talk about the St. Patrick Day festival in Savannah? I have one word to describe it- OVERWHELMING!!! My anxiety level was at def con one. Don't get me wrong- I had a good time and I was glad I went, but I don't know if it will be something I ever go back to. There was just soooo many people there. I think something like 700,000-1,000,000 people descend upon Savannah for this event. Craziness!!

Our morning started off with a bang. Since parking was going to be so horrible downtown, we decided to take the bus that was running nonstop from downtown to Whitemarsh Island, where David lives. So we arrived at the Wal-Mart parking lot to be picked up and the line was wrapped around. There had to be 1,000 people waiting to get on the bus. Wow. So we begrudgingly took our place in line and got to waiting.
At least we had a good attitude about it. So we put on our smiles and took the first picture of the day.
About 1.5 hours later, we finally made it on the bus. Yay!

Yes, I realize we are sporting some sweet shades. Me with my navy and green wayfarers and David with those hideous BluBlockers. But that's how we roll. Ha!

David had some friends who had gone early, early in the morning to set up a spot to tailgate in one of the squares. So after pushing our way through numerous crowds we finally got to our spot and we parked it. I was refusing to go anywhere else because I was so overwhelmed going through all those people to get to the correct square were everyone was.
The video is pretty random, but I thought it was neat to hear Dixie played on bagpipes

The parade was awesome, but oh so very long. It started at 10 am and it was still going strong when we left around 3:30-4:00 or so. My favorite part of the parade was seeing all the various branches of the military marching and all the girls in the crowds with there bright red lipstick going up to kiss them on the cheek. Guess its all part of the whole "kiss me, I'm Irish" thing.

They even had some Revolutionary and Confederate soldiers, too ha!
There was some locals there too. The marching band from Quincy, FL made the journey to march.
At the end of the day, I finally got to see my girl! They were brave and journeyed to our square.
So that pretty much sums up my St. Patty's Day in Savannah.
